I recently had the privilege of putting together one of the most creative shoots I’ve experienced since graduating from photography school. Logan’s Circle is an incredibly talented pop punk band local to Raleigh. Their bass player Kaelie reached out to me about getting some promotional photos done in preparation for their first upcoming live performance together, preceding the release of their EP. I invited the band over to my apartment to make plans for the shoot, discuss their image, and compare everyone’s conflicting work schedules. To get an idea of the vibe of their music, we listened to some recordings of their songs. Their music is both catchy and serious, reminiscent of the early 2000s pop punk that I grew up loving and still blast loud in the car. Absolutely a band I’m excited to promote.
We chose a spot at Jordan Lake that used to be a functioning road a long time ago, but is now chained off to traffic, as it cracks and sinks into the water at the end of a mile long walk. The area is gaining popularity for fishing, and we were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves on this day.
I had the specific idea that I wanted to be able to shoot from the water, but it was in the middle of January, so I convinced my partner Kevin to buy some fishing waders and let me borrow them. Fishing is by far his favorite thing to do, which is why I knew about this location in the first place, so this was a purchase he wanted to make at some point anyway. I just hurried it along for the sake of an epic photo opportunity.
After the sun went down, we hung around by the campfire. They brought their guitars and Kevin brought his box drum, and had an acoustic jam session around the fire. I have no musical skills, so I sat there and soaked it all in. It was a magical experience to witness their talent in such an intimate personal space. Truly a special night I won’t soon forget.
If you want to show these guys your support, give them a listen and a follow. They’re on Spotify, Apple Music, Facebook, & Instagram.
